Mitch Van Kampen named president and chief strategy officer

Mitch Van Kampen, a 10-year veteran of Curious Plot and the agency’s chief strategy officer, has been named president and CSO. In his new role, Van Kampen will focus on growth initiatives and long-term strategic direction for the organization, while continuing to provide strategic counsel to clients. He reports to Laurie Fleck, who continues as the agency’s chief executive officer and is responsible for the overall direction and performance of the agency.

With more than 100 employees nationwide, Curious Plot is a marketing, communications and consulting agency serving clients in the food, agriculture and companion animal care markets.

“We have seen significant recent growth, and I’ve challenged Mitch to ensure we maintain that momentum and properly manage our growth,” Fleck said. “This is an important step to secure our future.”

In the latest agency rankings just released by AgriMarketing, Curious Plot ranks as the no. 3 agency in overall income, no. 3 in income from agribusiness accounts and no. 2 in income from producer-funded accounts. Each of the three rankings represents an all-time high for the 13-year-old company.

“I’m excited and energized to take on this new role,” Van Kampen said. “In particular, I’m focused on identifying growth strategies for our agency that translate into benefits and value for our clients and team members, whether that be new capabilities, increased depth in our focus industry sectors, more great people at the table or opportunities yet to be defined. We win when our clients win, and our clients win when we bring the best team together to help solve their critical challenges.”

Most recently, Van Kampen served as executive vice president and chief strategy officer, leading the agency’s consulting practice and strategic services offering. Van Kampen has played a key role in driving and deepening the integration of the management consulting offering with the agency’s top clients.

“Since its founding, Curious Plot has operated as a true hybrid that leverages the best of integrated agencies and consultancies,” Fleck said. “We believe, and our client experience continues to prove, that the combination of those two capabilities addresses the challenges of clients in a more meaningful way.”

Prior to joining Curious Plot in 2012, Van Kampen worked for the management consulting firm Adayana, formerly ABG Inc., where he served clients including John Deere, Zoetis, Bayer, WinField United, Case IH, Wilbur-Ellis, Farm Credit Mid-America, Boehringer Ingelheim and others. Prior to Adayana, he worked for the Bos Dairies in Fair Oaks, Indiana.

Van Kampen holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Purdue University.
